Time To Stop Medicating Your Children
What Is Ayurveda — And Why It May Be the Missing Piece in Your Health
Ayurveda is the world's oldest system of medicine. Originating in India over 5 000 years ago, it is not a trend, a fad, or an alternative to modern healthcare. It is a complete science of life — one that understands the human body not as a collection of isolated parts, but as an integrated whole, deeply connected to nature, to rhythm, and to the elements.
And in a world where chronic disease is rising, burnout is epidemic, and people are increasingly disillusioned with a system that treats symptoms rather than causes, Ayurveda offers something radical: a return to the root.
The Foundation of Ayurveda: The Three Doshas
At the heart of Ayurvedic philosophy is the understanding that every person is unique. We are each born with a specific constitution — a combination of the three doshas — that determines our physical characteristics, our mental tendencies, our strengths, and our vulnerabilities.
- Vata — composed of air and space. Vata types are creative, quick-thinking, and energetic when in balance. When out of balance, they experience anxiety, insomnia, digestive irregularity, dry skin, and joint pain.
- Pitta — composed of fire and water. Pitta types are driven, focused, and passionate when in balance. When out of balance, they experience inflammation, skin conditions, acid reflux, irritability, and burnout.
- Kapha — composed of earth and water. Kapha types are grounded, nurturing, and steady when in balance. When out of balance, they experience weight gain, sluggishness, congestion, depression, and attachment.
Most people are a combination of two doshas, with one typically dominant. Understanding your constitution is the starting point for everything in Ayurveda — because what heals one person may harm another.
Ayurveda and the Concept of Agni
Central to Ayurvedic health is the concept of agni — digestive fire. Agni is responsible not just for digesting food, but for processing all experiences — physical, emotional, and mental. When agni is strong, we are healthy, clear-minded, and vital. When agni is weak or disturbed, undigested matter — called ama — accumulates in the body, becoming the root of disease.
This is why Ayurveda places such profound emphasis on digestion. A healthy gut is not just about what you eat — it is about how, when, and in what state of mind you eat.
The Ayurvedic Daily Routine: Dinacharya
One of Ayurveda's most powerful tools is dinacharya — the daily routine. Ayurveda teaches that living in alignment with the natural rhythms of the day — rising with the sun, eating the largest meal at midday when digestive fire is strongest, winding down as the sun sets — is one of the most profound acts of self-care available to us.
Simple daily practices like oil pulling, tongue scraping, self-massage with warm oil (abhyanga), and mindful eating are not rituals for their own sake. They are tools for maintaining the balance of the doshas, supporting agni, and preventing the accumulation of ama.
Why Ayurveda Works Where Other Approaches Fail
Modern medicine excels at crisis intervention. But for chronic, lifestyle-driven conditions — fatigue, hormonal imbalance, digestive disorders, skin conditions, anxiety, weight challenges — it often falls short. Ayurveda addresses these conditions at their root by restoring balance to the whole system rather than suppressing individual symptoms.
It is also deeply personalised. There is no single Ayurvedic diet, no universal supplement protocol, no one-size-fits-all approach. Everything is tailored to your constitution, your current state of imbalance, your age, your season, and your life circumstances.
Our Ayurvedic Wellness Lifestyle Plan by Trish Taylor brings this ancient wisdom into your modern life. Trish — an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner — personally assesses your dosha, identifies your current imbalances, and designs a comprehensive, bespoke plan covering diet, daily routine, herbal support, and lifestyle practices tailored entirely to you.
Ayurveda does not ask you to change who you are. It asks you to understand who you are — and live accordingly.
