Your Spring Reset Guide: 5 Ayurvedic Tips to Transition Your Body Into Spring
Your Spring Reset Guide: 5 Ayurvedic Tips to Transition Your Body Into Spring
August is almost over. The cold is lifting. The days are getting longer. And your body — whether you realise it or not — is ready to shift.
In Ayurveda, the transition from winter to spring is one of the most important times of year to support your health. Winter accumulates what Ayurveda calls ama — toxins, stagnation, and heaviness that build up in the joints, the gut, and the skin when we move less, eat heavier foods, and spend more time indoors.
Spring is the season to clear it. Here is how we do it at Life Retreat Wellness.
1. Clear Winter Inflammation With Emu Oil
If your joints are still stiff and your muscles still aching after winter, Emu Oil is the most effective natural remedy we have found in over two decades of wellness practice.
Unlike most topical oils that sit on the surface of the skin, Emu Oil has a unique molecular structure that allows it to penetrate entirely through the skin barrier and work at a cellular level — reaching the joint, the inflamed tissue, and the dry, damaged skin underneath.
It is anti-inflammatory, deeply moisturising, and has been used for centuries by Indigenous Australians for exactly this purpose. Our customers use it for arthritis, eczema, hair thinning, old scars, and post-exercise muscle soreness — and many have been using it for over a decade.
How to use it in spring: Apply a small amount to stiff joints or sore muscles morning and night. For skin, apply a few drops to clean skin after your shower. For hair, massage a few drops into the scalp and leave for 20–30 minutes before washing.
Starting from R159 for 50ml. Order Emu Oil here.
2. Do a Daily Ayurvedic Oil Massage (Abhyanga)
In Ayurveda, spring is the season to warm and nourish the skin before the heat of summer arrives. The practice of abhyanga — self-massage with warm oil — is one of the oldest and most effective wellness rituals in the world.
Warm sesame oil applied to the face and body before your morning shower draws out toxins through the skin, deeply moisturises the skin barrier that winter has stripped, stimulates lymphatic drainage, and leaves skin glowing and soft.
How to do it: Warm a small amount of cold-pressed sesame oil in your hands. Massage it into your skin using long strokes on the limbs and circular strokes on the joints. Leave for 10–15 minutes, then shower. Do this three to five times a week for two weeks and notice the difference in your skin, your energy, and your mood.
This is one of the simplest, most affordable, and most powerful things you can do for your body this spring.
3. Support Your Gut for Clear Skin and Stable Energy
In Ayurveda, the gut is the root of all health. And spring is the ideal time to do a gentle gut reset — because a healthy gut drives clear skin, stable energy, strong immunity, and a balanced mood heading into the warmer months.
Signs your gut needs support: bloating, irregular digestion, skin breakouts, low energy, brain fog, or mood swings. These are all signs that your gut microbiome is out of balance.
Simple spring gut reset tips:
- Drink warm lemon water first thing in the morning to stimulate digestion
- Reduce cold, raw foods and favour warm, cooked meals for the first two weeks of spring
- Add fermented foods — kefir, sauerkraut, or kombucha — to support your microbiome
- Reduce refined sugar, which feeds harmful gut bacteria and drives inflammation
- Consider a quality probiotic supplement to repopulate beneficial bacteria

4. Move More — Even Gently
Winter makes us sedentary. And sedentary bodies accumulate inflammation, stiffness, and cortisol. Spring is the time to reverse this — but you do not need to start with intense exercise.
Ten minutes of gentle morning movement in the sun is enough to reset your circadian rhythm, boost serotonin and dopamine, reduce cortisol, and start clearing the physical stagnation of winter.
Start here: A ten-minute morning walk outside. Gentle yoga or stretching. A short swim if the weather allows. The goal is consistency, not intensity. Do it every day for two weeks and your energy will shift noticeably.
In Ayurveda, spring movement should be energising but not depleting. Listen to your body and build gradually.
